so much good music is being lost in the shuffle

I love finding new raw talent. YouTube gives people that voice, if people watch. David Meyrick and Meghan Tonjes are the two that I found. Today YouTube highlighted their great cover of a song by The Weepies. The song is "World Spins Madly On" off their disc "say i am you". I have heard this track at least twelve times now. It is beautiful! David has a voice that is smooth and inviting. He is the one that dug me into the track to listen again. Then I heard the nice vocals by Meghan. This is very raw music. Not studio fluff. You feel as though what you hearing is real. Like they mean it, each word. Listening around on their sites I found that they both have the vocal bug. They love to sing and I loved listening. I also found that there seems to be a YouTube underground music scene that I knew existed but I did not understand how they all supported each other. Seem that some YouTube artists travel to sing and play together. Others, I am guessing from this track, dropped their tracks via cyber-studio sessions. David and Meghan sounded great together. Give the song a listen. I have also included two others that impressed me. David doing a cover of a Kanye West’s "Heartless" and Meghan doing an original track called "The Weight Of". Meghan also has her tracks available on Amazon and ITunes.
How did I end out on Suzi Quatro? I have no idea. I was listening to Whitney Houston’s new upcoming CD and something dragged me over to Zune for The Runaways, then Joan Jett and I ended out on Suzi’s page. I was listening to to the CD "Essential". I am half way through and I have listened to "Your Mama Won’t Like Me" about 6 times. To me this is a perfect song for her time and perfect for someone to re-find today. I was sitting here thinking about who I would like to see cover this song. Shannon Curfman or Pink comes to mind. Vicki Martinez would be great too (Google her you will not be sorry). Someone with edge and someone with a little rasp to their voice. Give it a listen to. It holds up from 1975 to today. The video is not the best but you will get the idea. Enjoy!!!
YouTube singing sensation is coming to a radio near you, soon if I was to guess correctly. Esmee is a pop music dream. That is probably why Justin TImberlake has taken her under his pop-inspired wings. He worked with her on her first single called "Outta Here". It is perfect for many crowds. I would expect that people who are young and like Miley Cyrus will love this. People who like top 40 and R&B inspired pop will love this. People who like American Idol will love this. If you are in a gay club I would expect to hear the remix of this, thumping loud. From 12 to 70 years old she has the ability to hit a large crowd not only with this song but if you listen to her other stuff on her YouTube station you will see that she has a nice soothing beautiful voice. That is probably why she has so many hits on her videos – in the many millions. I picked a couple different videos for you to check her out. First is the making of the song "Outta Here" and her take on Justin Timberlake’s song "What Goes Around". Both show a star that is just bursting out… This star is going to shine in a big way.
I just wrote about Erin last week, then low and behold I run across her new video. She has such a pretty voice. I did give the CD a listen to last week also. It is a very nice mellow sound. I expect that she will be around for a while!!
I have one word for you all: P!NK Gawd she rocks. I am not even through the whole CD and I can’t tell you what a complete pile of… Grammy’s it is. She has a cd full of original not rehashed pop like everyone else does (are you listening Britney?) She is a complete original! I can’t wait to listen to it a million more times. So far it is living up to what I wanted out of her… A CD you listen to really loud in the shower while you are soap’in up before heading out for a fun night. Other music I can’t wait to listen to that came out today. Lady GaGa - I heard a song on an online radio station the other day and wondered who it was. It was actually the Backstreet Boys (I know…) and Lady GaGa. She has an great fun voice. Very dance. I listened to few others on her MySpace page. Can’t wait to listen to it. Labelle – Patti and Company come back together. It is suppose to be a little bit dance (disco?) and gospel. Should be interesting. I was talking to my peeps the other day about Tina Turner (she has a greatest hits CD out with a couple really good new songs, take a listen) and some how Patti’s name came up. So I fired up my subscription online service and gave her old stuff. Besides the obvious, wow I am not a fan. However, I am a huge fan of her stuff from the early 2000′s. Snow Patrol - Loved the last CD. Can’t wait to give this one a listen Toby Keith – I will give this one just one spin. I am sure that I will find one or maybe two tracks that I will play at the bar on the jukbox. In the category of "Why the hell do people still buy this crap"… I give you Kenny Chesney. His new CD came out last week. I gave it one spin. He is the Tom Cruise of country music. In all of Tom’s movies he is the same character. All Kenny’s cds sound like the last cd. He is not country anymore and he has not done anything interesting since "I want my rib back". Ok enough of me today. It is time for me to start the P!nk cd over. Run don’t walk and buy it. p.s. It just pisses me off that I am in Omaha Nebraska on business for almost two weeks and during that time AC/DC came out with a new cd that is only at Walmat. It is not Walmart that pisses me off. It is that there is a Walmart 2 blocks from my hotel and twice a day (to and back from work) I get reminded that I want that CD. The stupid Walmart does not open until a week after I leave and I don’t know the city well enough to know where another is. Oh well I will be home tomorrow, thank gawd! Peace out |
